New Column Added To Google Site: Final Part Of Edge Career Retrospective!

After months of delays, I've finally finished my 4-part tribute to Edge and his career. Apologies for the fully-completed tribute being so belated. I'm also looking to get up to speed on PPV reviews shortly, so keep it here on my blog and at the Google site!

Here is a sample of my latest column:

" Rated R: For "Retired": Part 4: By Matthew Evans (19/02/12)

*The 4th and final part of a belated retrospective on the WWE career of Adam "Edge" Copeland:

Edge began 2007 in a big way by continuing his alliance with "Legend Killer" Randy Orton (together, they were collectively known as "Rated-RKO"). Then, in May, Edge became a 2-time "Money In The Bank" briefcase winner when he defeated Mr Kennedy in an impromptu match on Raw (Kennedy was legitimately injured and so had to temporarily give up his spot and main event opportunity).

Once again, Edge proved to be the "ultimate opportunist" when he "cashed in" his briefcase after WWE World Heavyweight Champion The Undertaker had endured a gruelling title defence against Batista, as well as an unprovoked surprise attack from Mark Henry. Yet again, Edge had "gobbled up the scraps" like a rabid hyena, but technically, he’d done it "by the book." Whether the fans liked it or not, Edge had just unseated The Undertaker as champion.

Following a series of title defences against Batista, Edge entered into a feud with Kane, but this was cut short when Edge tore his pectoral muscle during an angle on SD! It was yet another injury blow for the "Rated R Superstar." It was with a heavy heart that he vacated the World Title and spent most of the remainder of the year on the sidelines.

Edge made a not-so-shocking return at the Survivor Series in November of that year (the promos featured a crazed Edge wielding a chain saw). However, what WAS surprising was the way in which he interjected himself in the Hell In A Cell WWE World Title Match between Batista and Undertaker (he unleashed a vicious steel-chair-assisted assault on ‘Taker and cost him the match). Another surprise (which would be forthcoming following the PPV) was Edge’s announcement that he and SD! General Manager Vickie Guerrero were now in a (story line) relationship. This meant that Vickie now had all the power to book Edge favourably and make life difficult for the likes of Undertaker and Batista...."

New Column Added To Google Site: Ryan Owens Gives Elimination Chamber Predictions

My old Smash Wrestling pal Ryan Owens is back with a new column as he weighs in with his predictions for tonight's "Elimination Chamber" PPV.

Here is a sample of his thoughts:

"Elimination Chamber Predictions: By Ryan Owens (19/02/12)

I believe, and feel free to disagree, that the problem with booking the WM main event so far in advance is that once its booked, the road to it is redundant. If the teams for the Super Bowl were already decided, would anyone watch the playoffs? For the WWE, the Road to Wrestlemania is similar to the playoffs, and part of what always made that Road special was not knowing until March (other than the Rumble winner) who was going to main event the big dance.

This year, the advance booking of Rock vs Cena, and the wave of injuries to plague the WWE (Del Rio, Mysterio, Christian, and Orton) means that there are only so many ways for the World title, and WWE title pictures to unfold at Mania, thus while in past years one may have had a suspicion on how WM would be booked, this year (even prior to the Rumble) it's been almost an absolute certainty across the board. So if certain match combinations are almost guaranteed at this point, why watch an event like the Elimination Chamber? Will the Elimination Chamber stand on its own, or will it be rememberd as nothing more than filler? Lets breakdown this Sunday's card and see if we can answer that question...."
